What happens on a fiber install?

What is a fiber install?

A fiber install is when one or more techs come out to help your home get connected to our internet service. On the day of the appointment our techs will walk through your home to see the best way to get your router connected to the internet as well as the best position for your router in the home.

Getting you connected

After we drill a hole in your wall to the outside, we will thread a couple wires through, one for internet and another for power. We do our best to take care when drilling into your home and have it neat and tidy so you can paint the wires on the outside or cover them up another way.

Keeping you connected

Once the techs have threaded the wires through, on one side a tech will clamp the wires down against the house to keep them somewhat protected of weather and animals. If you ever find for some reason your wire got cut, just give us a call and we will head right out to you to fix it!

On the other side of the wall, the tech will get connections ready. He will split the wires so they can be terminated to a jack and the internet connected to the Zyxel router properly. The next connection he will do is the power to the Zyxel router.

On the outside, the tech will be installing the preprogrammed Calix ONT, this device allows you to be connected to the internet with fiber, which means faster and greater speeds!

You're connected!

Once the jack has been terminated on the outside and plugged into the ONT and the green light is on, the internet connection has been made for the router! You can now connect to the wifi and start streaming!

Final Testing

At the beginning of the visit the techs will have tested the routers wifi signal to make sure the router is in the best spot and actually works. At the end of the visit now they will hook their laptop to the ethernet cable and do a speedtest to ensure you are getting the speeds you are paying for!
